Wingdings Font Download and Install Guide

Where to get the Wingdings font, how to check it is installed, and how to use the symbols without installing anything.

This Wingdings font download guide explains where the font comes from, how to check whether it is already on your computer, and how to use Wingdings symbols without installing anything. Most Windows and Microsoft Office users already have it.

Where to Get the Wingdings Font

Wingdings is owned by Microsoft and is included with Windows and Microsoft Office. That is why we do not host font files here: the safe source is the one already on your computer, or Microsoft itself. See Microsoft’s Wingdings font page for the official details, including which Microsoft products include each font.

According to Wikipedia, Wingdings has been part of Windows since version 3.1, Wingdings 2 and 3 shipped with Microsoft Office up to version 2010, and Webdings has been included with Windows since Windows 98.

How to Check Whether Wingdings Is Installed

On Windows

Open Settings, go to Personalization, then Fonts, and search for “Wingdings”. If it appears, it is installed. In Word, select some text, open the font box and choose Wingdings.

On Mac

Open Font Book and search for “Wingdings”. Microsoft Office for Mac also provides these fonts. If you do not find them, you can still use the symbols from our tool.

On Android and iPhone

Phones do not usually allow websites or users to add system fonts. Use the Unicode symbols from our tool instead, which display without any font installed.

Use Wingdings Without Installing Anything

Typing in the Wingdings font stores normal letters and only changes how they look, so the message breaks the moment it reaches a device without the font. A better way is to convert your text to real symbol characters:

Why the Symbols Sometimes Look Different

Unicode 7.0 added most Wingdings and Webdings symbols as standard characters, but every device draws them with its own fonts. The same symbol can look slightly different on Windows, Mac and Android, and a few rare ones may appear as empty boxes on older systems. The meaning stays the same, and decoding still works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Wingdings font free to download?

Wingdings is a Microsoft font and trademark. It comes with Windows and Microsoft Office, so most people already have it. We do not offer font files for download.

Do I need to install Wingdings to use this site?

No. The Wingdings Translator outputs standard Unicode symbols that display without the font, and the Wingdings to English translator decodes them back.

Why does my Wingdings text look like normal letters on another device?

Text typed in the Wingdings font is stored as ordinary letters, and only the font makes them look like symbols. A device without the font shows the letters. Copy symbols from our tool instead and they travel as real characters.

Can I install Wingdings on a phone?

Phones and tablets do not normally let you add system fonts, so the easiest option is to use our tool and copy the Unicode symbols.

Where do Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3 and Webdings come from?

According to Wikipedia, Wingdings 2 and 3 were distributed with Microsoft Office up to version 2010, and Webdings has been included with Windows since Windows 98.
